The umbrella+ was a project for an application at the Bauhaus University. The task was to plan and to build a multifunctional umbrella, that has another feature besides the protection against rain and sun. Additionally, the umbrella must be built from up-cycled material only and should be able to be down-cycled after usage.
This task led me to design an umbrella for small balcony’s which can be temporarily mounted on the handrail to protect from sun and rain. For the second function I prepared four table legs that are screwed on the main body. The umbrella screen is made of a transparent foil and a stiff metal wire mesh which enables the umbrella to be used as a table.
At times where the umbrella is not used, the horizontal screen and the stainless steel bracing cross can be stored away vertically on the main body.
